Biography

Janet E. Lightner grew up in Spokane, WA and graduated from Shadle Park HS in 1977.  She attended North Seattle Community College, then moved to Bellingham in 1978 to go to WWU. She raised her 4 children primarily outside of Bellingham and had a small family Farm.

 

Janet has spent the first half of her professional career as a chef and sous chef.  The Cobblestone Cafe, Wild Garlic and Il Fiasco in Bellingham were dining icons during the 80s and 90s.  She joined Ed at Boundary Bay Brewery in late 1996 about a year and a half after opening. She came on board in the capacity of Chef moving into her current role as General Manager in 1999.  Her children work at the Brewery helping run the day to day operations of the Brewery and the Restaurant.

 

Boundary has won many awards including small business of the year presented by the Chamber of Commerce, the 2014 most philanthropic small business in WA State, and has been the Largest Brewpub in the USA – 3 out of the past 6 years, including countless awards for its Beer and Best Brewpub in the NW.

 

Janet has served on several Boards including the Washington State Hospitality Association, Sustainable Connections, Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center and Shifting Gears. She was nominated for the Professional Woman of the Year and Restaurant Operator of the year several years ago. She is the founder of the Bellingham Saint Patricks Day Parade drawing 1000s of people to downtown Bellingham!
